The Glenfiddich 14 Year Old (YO) Bourbon Barrel Reserve Scotch whisky is a great tasting and interesting scotch that has been matured in previously used Kentucky bourbon barrels and then finished in new charred American Oak bourbon barrels. The whisky is a U.S. exclusive expression. The flavor is interesting since you can detect some vanilla and caramel flavors within the whisky. I will have to rely on the tasting notes from the Glenfiddich Distillery website which are as follows—
Color: Copper Oak or golden amber
Nose: Deep vibrant vanilla notes with hints of citrus, caramelized brown sugar and cinnamon. Baked apple and ripe summer fruits and balanced with the rich oaky aromas.
Taste/Palate: Beautifully rich and sweet with layers of creamy toffee, woody spices, candied orange peel and fresh toasted oak.
Finish: Long lasting with lingering sweetness.
The Glenfiddich 14 YO Bourbon Barrel Reserve shows a scotch that had a long maturing period within the deep charred new American Oak Barrels. The color of the whisky comes from the rich charring effect created by the maturing process of the whisky in the barrels. The sweet, caramel scent is noticeable as you nose the whiskey.
I would suggest that bourbon and scotch drinkers or aficionados give this whisky a try and see how you like it. It was a pleasure for us to review and enjoy this whisky on the 2016 World Whiskey Day. The interesting flavor is unique and it makes me wonder which premium cigar could be paired up with the whisky. From reviewing my cigars, I’m pondering trying a Montecristo Platinum Series cigar with the Glenfiddich 14 YO Bourbon Barrel Reserve whisky. For the sake of enlightening our followers I will sacrifice myself and try them together. It really is a tough life!!
