First, as I describe this particular whiskey, you will want to pour yourself a glass. But, unfortunately, you are about to become upset and mad because it is a limited edition with limited production.
Why do you need to get hold of one of these limited edition bottles? It is an altered edition expression from Jameson Irish whiskey and because The distiller finished off the whiskey in Irish stout seasoned whiskey barrels. Thus, the expression is called Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates.
Jameson Caskmates collaboration
The collaboration between the Franciscan Well Brewery and Irish Distillers started when the brewery used seasoned Irish whiskey cask to age their stout.
Once the empty barrels were returned to the Irish Distillers, the distillers were curious to see what would happen if they filled the barrels back up with Jameson Irish Whiskey.
The experiment proved successful, but only 3,500 bottles were available and only in Ireland. So, if you are were in Ireland during the release, I hope you got yourself a bottle.
Caskmates Tasting Notes
Our tastings notes of Jameson Caskmates are as follows:
Nose: Rich chocolaty, almost cocoa flavor; the flavor is overwhelming crisp, sharp apple aroma. The aroma takes me to a farmer’s market where ripe, rich fruits are being marketed. A juicy orange lingers in the background waiting to burst open with flavor. The vision of a couple running through a wheat field and those lovely aroma’s harvest wheat comes through.
Taste: The vision of a pub comes through as you prepare to take that first sip of stout. The richness of the cocoa and chocolate flavor caresses the tongue. The whiskey has a “chewiness” and a thick mouthful of rich flavors. The “chewiness” is the combination of Jameson Irish whiskey and the stout beer barrels.
Finish: Long and sweet with Milk Chocolate, toffee, and a hint of butterscotch, or it could be caramel.
News Flash: Since the release of this article, you should be able to pick up a bottle of Jameson Caskmates Irish whiskey from your local adult beverage vendor. If not, you probably want to ask them to place it on their “to stock” list.
