Pendleton Canadian Whisky and Punch London Club Cigar

August 1, 2017 by whiskey Leave a Comment

The Pendleton Canadian Whisky has a history and relationship with the model day cowboy and cowgirl as well as pairing with a fine cigar.  The Pendleton is a smooth and light bodied Canadian whisky that was created to celebrate the spirit of the American cowboy.

The relationship and camaraderie are all based on the connection of the cowboy/cowgirl, rodeo, and the Pendleton Round-up which takes place on September 13-16, 2017.  The round-up is in its 107th season.  The Hood River Distillery, the producer of Pendleton Whisky, is based in Hood River, Oregon and it’s been a part of the cowboy rodeo, pageants, round-up and fun for over 106 years.  If you are curious to know more about Pendleton whisky and the round-up head over at http://bit.ly/2vpEvgRt.

Even though it’s a blended whisky, the Pendleton Canadian whisky offers a smooth and rich flavor.  The blended nature of the Pendleton Canadian whisky combined with glacial-fed spring water from Mount Hood helps to enhance a smooth balance of most fine cigars.

The Punch London Club cigar is a medium-bodied cigar and has a tri-tobacco blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco leaves.  It is wrapped in an Ecuadoran tobacco leaf.  The flavor has the robustness to hold up to some well-aged whiskies as well as rums and red wines.  The cigar definitely packs a punch with a hearty flavor and smoothness.

Upon the initial light and draw, the full, pleasing flavor of the cigar comes through and it puts a smile on your face.  While savoring the cigar flavor, I took a sip of the Pendleton Canadian whisky and the two blended together in a great marriage.  The Pendleton Whisky and Punch London cigar worked off each other and were respectful in flavor and taste.

At the half-way point, the Pendleton Canadian whisky and the Punch London Club cigar flavors still bonded well and the smoothness was evident upon each sip of whisky and cigar draw.  With the complexities in the whisky, it’s difficult to work out which particular flavors created the oneness with both whisky and cigar.   Since the whisky is distilled in oak barrels, it has the usual flavors of vanilla, honey, spice, and caramel.  Therefore, these flavors mixed in with the vigorous cigar flavor created a happy marriage.

The final result showed a great match between the whisky and cigar.  The Pendleton Blended Canadian whisky and the Punch London Club cigar are well suited and balance out each other in flavor and taste.  The robustness of the tobacco trio is able to merge with the sweet and spicy flavor of the whisky.

If you haven’t tried the Pendleton Canadian whisky you can swing by your local Total Wines or More and pick up a bottle.  The 750 ml bottle retails for around $22.00, so go ahead and give it a swirl.  Since everybody’s palate will be different, try the whisky neat first and then maybe add a little water.  If it’s still not hitting the mark on your taste buds you can always use it for mixing cocktails!

If there are other whiskies or cigar aficionados who have paired this cigar with a particular whisky, please share your findings with us and the other readers.  We would like to give your suggestions a try and see how they pair up.

Until then, we will sign off and wish you all a good evening. Please check out the LoversofWhisky.com website and let us know your comments…cheers
