The slow cooker whiskey meatballs recipe came about as I was searching for a food dish that was not much work and easy to do. I came across the recipe posted through Pinterest by Mara Hornby. The recipe called for frozen meatballs but we decided to go with homemade meatballs instead.
I added the ketchup, brown sugar, cask strength Maker’s Mark, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce to the crock pot liner and stirred the ingredients together (with the crock pot switched off). I then lightly seasoned the ground beef and rolled it into balls. I placed them into the crock pot so all the balls were covered or at least partially covered with the sauce mixture. I switched on the crock pot to the HIGH setting and sat my timer for 30 minutes so that the meatballs could be stirred at that point. This ensured even cooking of the meatballs.

The timer and stir process continued every 30 minutes for 1.5 – 2 hours or until the meatballs are cooked through. Timing will depend on the size of the meatballs and if you use fresh meat to make your own meatballs or if you use frozen meatballs. I suggest testing for meatball doneness at the 1 – 1.5 hour mark. The flavor of the meatballs and sauce was excellent and you can taste the whiskey within each one. My wife and I served the meatballs with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli and all flavors came together. My wife who is a non-lover of whiskey liked the meatballs and is looking forward to having them cooked for her again.
