When you and your mates are in Philadelphia, PA, you need to swing by Lloyd Whiskey Bar at 529 East Girard Ave. and partake of their food menu, whiskey or some of their signature cocktails. Try a plate of their braised short ribs made with a savory bourbon sauce. It’s a possibility that the flavor can be on the rich side, so it would be a great idea to try one of their signature cocktails to cut through the richness.
I suggest trying the Overlook Cocktail because the Rittenhouse Rye whiskey is 100 proof and it has the punch to cut through the rich flavor of the ribs. I came across the recipe for the Overlook when I was browsing through my copy of The North American Whiskey Guide from Behind the Bar, by Chad Berkey and Jeremy Leblance.
Per The North American Whiskey Guide from Behind the Bar, the Overlook is named due to the redness of the Campari resembling the red blood exiting the elevator in Stephen King’s book “The Shining”. The drink goes down well and it definitely packs a punch due to the Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey.
