Sheep Dip Malt Whisky is a blended whisky that is distilled in Scotland and bottled for the Spencerfield Spirit Company. Sheep Dip is blended by using 16 different single malt whiskies that have age statements from eight to twenty years old. Once the whiskies are blended, they are aged in oak casks that are especially selected for the Sheep Dip Malt Whisky blend.
Sheep Dip Malt Whisky’s unique name is based on how farmers used to hide their brew to avoid paying taxes on their “home-made” whisky. The farmers would place the whisky into barrels marked as “SD” which referred to “Sheep Dip” to keep the tax man from snooping. Sheep Dip is an insecticide concoction used to free sheep of lice before they were sheared. Sheep Dip Malt Whisky is a very complex blend neat or with several drops of water. According to the package, the single malt whiskies are not specified but blended mainly with Highland malts as well as Speyside and Islay malt whiskies.
The tasting notes for Sheep Dip Malt Whisky are as follows.
