Who would have ever thought that heavenly angels would find a way to partake of whiskey? Well, it does happen and it is known as “The Angel’s Share”. The Angel’s Share is a process that occurs throughout the world but mostly in warmer climates and it is where the whiskies in the distillery lose anywhere from two to four percent of barrel contents due to evaporation. It is possible for a cask or barrel to lose 40-50% of its content over a 10 year period.
If the barrels are stored in a low humidity region there will be more water than alcohol that evaporates but if the barrels are stored in a high humidity area, more alcohol will evaporate.
And now we know why the angels sing sweetly!
